About me!
Hi, my name is Mi-Ree, my friends call me Ree!
Welcome to Gym Travel Blog (GTB), my personal travel and fitness blog where I share honest gym reviews, active travel experiences and real stories from life on the move. I created GTB for people like me: travellers who love to train, move, explore and experience the world through more than just the usual tourist checklist.
My love of fitness started when I met my husband, Luke, around 17 years ago. He introduced me to a world I did not really know before then , strength training, movement, discipline, confidence and the feeling of becoming stronger in your own body.
Since then, fitness has become a huge part of my life.
Over the years, I have tried everything from 12-week challenges and bodybuilding competitions to running the City to Surf, boxing classes, yoga, Pilates, swimming, Muay Thai, HYROX, padel and pickleball. Some things I loved straight away. Some things challenged me. Some things I tried once and decided were probably not for me and that is part of the fun.
Travel has become just as important.
Luke and I have been lucky enough to combine our love of fitness with our love of exploring the world. We have trained in gyms across different cities, walked through unfamiliar neighbourhoods, hiked incredible places, climbed an active volcano in Guatemala, completed the four-day Machu Picchu hike in Peru, and discovered that some of the best travel memories happen when you are moving your body.
Why I Started GTB
Before every trip, I would search online for gyms near where we were staying. I wanted to know the simple things:
Is there decent equipment? Can I get a day pass? Is it clean? Is it welcoming? Is it worth the visit?
But so often, the information online was limited, outdated, confusing or too generic. So I started writing the kind of reviews I always wanted to find. GTB began as a place for honest gym reviews from around the world, real reviews, based on real visits, written by someone who actually loves to train.
Over time, the blog naturally grew into something broader. Because for me, fitness and travel are connected. A good gym can make a city feel more familiar. A long walk can help you understand a neighbourhood. A bike ride, hike, padel match or early morning run can turn a destination into a memory.
What I Write About
On GTB, I share honest gym reviews, active travel experiences, destination guides and personal reflections from the road.
Sometimes that means reviewing a gym in a new city. Sometimes it means sharing where to walk, run, ride, hike, play padel or try something active. Other times, it is simply about a place, culture, moment or experience that felt worth remembering.
If I have trained there, tried it, explored it or experienced it, I write about it honestly.
My Approach
I am not here to pretend every gym is perfect or every trip is effortless.
I write with honesty, but also with respect. Every gym, business and destination has people behind it, and I try to remember that in every review I write. My goal is simple: to help other travellers find places to train, move, explore and feel good while they are away from home.
I hope GTB helps you discover a gym, a city, an experience or a moment that makes your own journey better.
Life is too short, enjoy every moment, travel, try new things, and if you have a question for me, let me know. I’m always happy to share my insights with you.
Thank you for reading my blog!
See you in a gym somewhere around the world soon, I hope!
Ree 💙
