First Impressions

I was genuinely excited to train at SK-11 Gym during our recent trip to Phuket. Their website mentioned state-of-the-art equipment, and when arriving I was immediately drawn to their unilateral machines. The staff were friendly and spoke good English. The gym was clean, tidy, and well maintained. Signage was in Thai, Russian, and English, and the crowd upstairs was a mix of Russian travellers and focused gym-goers. The vibe felt a little bullish when we arrived, but nothing intimidates me these days, I have my own workout to smash out. Every bit of floor space in this two-level gym was utilised well. The equipment range was impressive, and everything felt solid with smooth movement patterns and excellent for muscle connection.

Facilities and Equipment

SK-11 Gym is spread across two levels:

Ground Floor: Cardio (treadmills, ellipticals, stair climbers), street-view windows, and everything for the lower body. The air-conditioning here was stronger than upstairs. There is a water fountain available, and open cube shelving where you can leave your belongings. The shelves aren’t lockable, but if you have been in Thailand long enough, you know there’s a certain trust within the community, so I felt comfortable leaving my bag there. There is no dedicated changing room, but there are individual shower and toilet rooms available if you need to change.

Second Floor: Upper body machines, free weights, and a yoga area. The mirrored walls upstairs make the space feel larger. Air-con was lighter upstairs but still manageable.

Cleaning equipment was available to wipe down your machines after use and the staff were very attentive to keep the common areas cleaned and serviced.

Equipment

This gym has an incredible amount of equipment, especially unilateral machines, which I loved. Below are some of the machines I noted, but trust me, there was a lot more packed into this gym:

Equipment Highlights:

  • Single-plated leg press - loved this

  • Pendulum squat - haven’t seen one of these in ages so it was a must in my workout today!

  • Hack squat

  • Leg curl

  • Leg extension

  • Abduction machines - not a Thai gym without these!

  • Seated calf raise

  • Kickback machine

  • Squat racks ×2

  • Hip thrust machine

  • Multiple back machines (unilateral)

  • Multiple chest machines

  • Multiple curl bars

  • Barbell chest press

  • Seated bicep curl

  • Plenty of free plate weights in KG

  • Hyperextension bench

  • Plate-loaded T-bar row

  • Shrug machine

  • Bicep machines

  • Functional cable trainer

  • Dumbbells up to 60 kg - very macho and impressive

  • Seated triceps press

  • Shoulder press

  • Seated lateral raise

  • Cardio machines

My Workout Experience

I trained legs first, taking full advantage of the incredible lower-body equipment on the ground floor, especially the single-plated leg press and the pendulum squat. Both felt amazing, and I haven’t trained on a pendulum machine in ages. I then headed upstairs to try some of the back machines - all unilateral, and they were smooth, well-designed, and made it easy to get strong muscle activation.

Hubby trained chest and triceps using the wide range of chest machines, cables, and tricep equipment. His only comment was that the benches were slightly difficult to stabilise because of the wheels at the base when pressing dumbbells.

The gym was busy enough to have energy but not so packed that we had to wait for anything. Everything we tried felt great, biomechanically sound, smooth, and well maintained.

My Gym Review Rating

Despite the slightly higher day-pass cost (250 THB), this gym absolutely justifies the price, especially considering it’s Phuket, where things tend to cost more. The facilities, equipment quality, and variety made the price feel reasonable and totally worth it. I liked this gym and the equipment. We only trained here once during our stay, but if the daily rate were a little lower, I would have absolutely returned for multiple sessions.
